Holiday Activities

Guests may simply wish to relax around the open-air pool, enjoy the breath taking sunsets or visit rural pubs of which the unspoilt West Wight has to offer. Alternatively guests may desire a more active break, or visit one of the many Isle of Wight Attractions. All within half an hours drive.

For school, student parties or for geography field trips. The Island is known by many as the ‘Dinosaur Island’, this is because there have been many dinosaur and fossil remains found within the locality. Historical attractions such as Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House are a short drive away from the site, and provide an interesting insight to the Island’s history.

Atherfield Bay is a short drive to one of the Island’s best theme parks – Blackgang Chine, as well as the dramatic Freshwater Bay Golf Course which welcomes pay-as-you-go-golfers.

The dramatic Isle of Wight Coastal Path is close by and taking advantage of countryside walks and cycling is highly recommended. A drying room and covered area to lock up bicycles are provided.

Atherfield Bay has one of the least light polluted night skies in England, therefore the opportunities for astronomy are limitless. The location also offers good space and thermals for those wishing to fly their radio controlled gliders and aeroplanes.

One of the finest sandy beaches (Compton Bay) lies within a five minute drive or a longer coastal walk and is perfect for swimming, surfing, kite-surfing, wind surfing, kite flying, surf canoeing and body boarding.

For the more active person action packed breaks can be arranged. These can include clay pigeon shooting, water sports, paragliding, 4×4 off road driving and also circumnavigation of the Island in a small plane.

School bookings:

Last year we had thirty school groups visit us. We have recently formed a partnership with leading school activities group: STS Travel ( www.ststravel.co.uk ) and In 2 Action ( www.in2actionuk.com ) to offer an exciting activity based school package with a strong educational emphasis.
